Fried Modak
Ingredients
- 2 tbsps ghee
- 1 ½ cups grated coconut
- ¾ cup chopped jaggery
- 1 tbsp poppy seeds
- ¼ tsp green cardamom powder
- A pinch of salt
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- ½ cup maida flour
- Sun flower Oil to deep fry
Method
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a non-stick pan. Add scraped coconut, jaggery and cook till jaggery melts and the mixture is thick. Add poppy seeds,green cardamom powder, pinch of salt. Mix well. Transfer the mixture into a bowl and set aside to cool.
- To make the dough mix whole wheat flour, maida flour, a pinch of salt and 1 tbsp ghee. Mix well. Add sufficient water and knead to stiff dough. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal portions. Flatten each portion with a rolling pin into thin roundels. Gently place a portion of the cooked mixture on centre of roundels and gather the edges and pinch to form shape like modak.
- Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, add modaks and deep fry on medium heat till golden brown in colour. Drain on an absorbent paper.
- Serve hot.
